Dodonpachi Maximum update now live but partially broken

Earlier this week, CAVE revealed that former Windows Phone vii-sectional shoot-em-up Dodonpachi Maximum would exist coming to iOS today. While I fretted about that, every bit I always practise when our platform loses a precious exclusive game, I besides noted that the WP7 version would soon receive a patch calculation the same new features promised in the iOS game. Before I share my impressions, permit'due south note that the game does not actually appear to have received a new soundtrack. The existing soundtrack always consisted of tunes from past Dodonpachi games remixed past Wasi303. If Like shooting fish in a barrel Style does include yet another remix of those tunes, I wasn't able to experience it. I'll explain why in a moment.

Turning Easy on

When you start start upward the game after updating, you'll receive a prompt request if you'd like to plow on Easy Style. The prompt mentions some bad news (which I already predicted): Achievements and leaderboard scores are disabled on Easy. Elitists volition applaud the move, while more than casual players who nevertheless like Achievements (such every bit yours truly) volition be disappointed by it. You can play Piece of cake Mode, but nada y'all practise matters, from a sharing and record-keeping perspective.

To view it, just select Story from Help & Options with Easy Way enabled.

As for the new transport, Uoratou is instantly unlocked from the starting time and can be accessed in both Easy and Normal modes. His shot is a variable blazon laser. Stay still and it fires a concentrated, powerful blast; move around and it fires a wider but less damaging shot. Uoratou even has unique and light-hearted voice samples. Al told, he'south a fine add-on.

Not so easy to play Easy

Now nosotros come to the major hitch in this patch: Easy Mode just plain doesn't piece of work! After activating it and choosing your ship, you lot'll be taken to the stage select screen as always. Unfortunately, non a single stage can be selected, non even one-A, the kickoff phase. They're all locked! As such, you simply tin can't play Easy Mode at the moment. The stage select screen is even more broken on Windows Phone 8; it actually crashes the game. Clearly something went wrong during the patch certification procedure.

Note that Normal Way seems to piece of work fine, fifty-fifty with the new ship. Every bit such, players should exist able to update safely for at present. A subsequent patch that fixes Like shooting fish in a barrel Mode is all simply guaranteed to come forth in the weeks alee.
